Tarihselcilik (Hristiyanlık)

Hristiyan eskatolojisinde tarihselcilik, sembolleri tarihsel kişiler, uluslar veya olaylarla ilişkilendiren bir Kitab-ı Mukaddes kehanetleri yorumlama yöntemidir. Hristiyan tarihçilerinin ilgisini çeken başlıca birincil metinler arasında Daniel Kitabı ve Vahiy Kitabı gibi kıyamet edebiyatı yer alır. Daniel'in kehanetlerinin, geçmişten bugüne ve geleceğe uzanan tarih boyunca gerçekleştiğini düşünür. Bazen sürekli tarihsel görüş olarak da adlandırılır. Yorumcular ayrıca tarihselci yöntemleri antik Yahudi tarihine, Roma İmparatorluğu'na, İslam'a, Papalık'a, Modern çağa ve son zamanlara da uygulamışlardır.

Tarihselci yöntem Daniel 2 ile başlar ve kitabın ardışık kehanetleri boyunca ilerler; 7, 8 ve 11. bölümler; bu da Daniel'in kehanetlerine ilişkin, geçmişçilik ve gelecekçilikten çok farklı bir bakış açısıyla sonuçlanır.

Reformasyondan 19. yüzyıla kadar Protestan Reformcuların hemen hemen hepsi tarihselci görüşlere sahipti.^[1]
