Lionel Richie (d. 20 Haziran 1949, Alabama), Amerikalı soul ve R&B şarkıcısı.

Richie, 20 Haziran 1949 tarihinde Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nin Tuskegee, Alabama şehrinde dünyaya geldi. 60'lı yılların ortalarında Commodores topluluğuna vokalist ve saksofoncu olarak girdi. Grup, 1968'de Atlantic Records ile gerçekleştirdiği tek albümlük anlaşmanın ardından Motown Kayıt Şirketi'yle sözleşme yaptı ve Lionel Richie, grubun en öndeki ismi olması nedeniyle 70'li yılların başından itibaren ün kazanmaya başladı.

Richie, 70'li yılların sonlarına doğru diğer sanatçılar için şarkı yazmaya başladı. Kenny Rogers için 1980 yılında zirveye yerleşen "Lady" adlı şarkıyı besteledi. "Share Your Love"ı yazdıktan kısa süre sonra "Endless Love" (Sonsuz Aşk) isimli filmin tema şarkısında Diana Ross ile düet yaptı.

Richie, 1982'de kendi adını taşıyan ilk albüm çalışmasını bitirdi. Motown Kayıt Şirketi etiketiyle yayınlanan ve dağıtımını Universal Music'in üstlendiği "Lionel Richie", sanatçının Commodores kapsamındaki çalışmalarıyla aynı çizgide yer alan 9 şarkısını içeriyordu. Bunlardan en çok ilgi göreni, "Truly" adlı şarkı oldu. Sanatçı 1983 yılında "Can't Slow Down" adlı ikinci albüm çalışmasını beğeniye sundu. 20 milyon adet satılan ve 2 adet Grammy ödülüne layık görülen albümün^[1] öne çıkan parçaları "All Night Long" ve "Hello" oldu. Richie daha sonra "White Nights" (Beyaz Geceler) filmi için "Say You, Say Me" adlı tema şarkısını besteledi. Ardından tüm dünyada ses getiren "We Are the World" parçası için Michael Jackson ile birlikte çalıştı.

1986'da sanatçı "Dancing On The Ceiling" adlı albümünü çıkardı. Ayrıca Lionel Richie, MTV'nin siyah yasağını bozan 3 sanatçıdan (Michael Jackson, Prince, Lionel Richie) birisidir. 2010 yılında Haiti için hazırlanan "We Are The World 25 For Haiti" için Quincy Jones ile birlikte prodüktörlük yapmıştır.
