Dil kayması

Dil kayması (dil transferi, dil değişimi veya dil asimilasyonu olarak da bilinir), bir konuşma topluluğunun genellikle uzun bir süre boyunca farklı bir dile geçiş yaptığı süreçtir. Genellikle, daha yüksek statüde olduğu düşünülen, daha önemli sayılan diller yayılırken, daha önemsiz görülen diller zamanla kaybolur. Roma İmparatorluğu döneminde Galce'den Latinceye geçiş buna bir örnektir.^[1]^[2]^[3]

Farklı kültürler bir araya gelip birleştiğinde kültürel asimilasyonun diğer yönleriyle birlikte dil asimilasyon da gerçekleşebilir.^[4]^[5]
