Barasana

Barasana (alternatif adları Barazana, Panenua, Pareroa veya Taiwano),^[1] Güney Amerika'da yaşayan bir yerli halkın egzonimidir ve Taiwanolardan ayrı bir topluluk olarak kabul edilmektedir. Ancak Taiwano lehçesi Barasana lehçesi ile neredeyse özdeştir ve dış gözlemciler iki dil arasında yalnızca küçük farklılıklar tespit etmiştir.^[2]^[3] Kolombiya'nın Vaupés Bölgesi'nde (Apaporis Nehri) ve Brezilya'nın Amazonas Eyaleti'nde Amazon Havzası'nın doğu kesiminde bulunan bir Tukano topluluğudur. 2000 yılı itibariyle Kolombiya'da en az 500 Barasana yaşamaktaydı, ancak bazı yeni tahminlere göre bu sayı 1.950'ye kadar çıkmaktadadır.^[4]^[5]^[6] Ayrıca 40 kişi Brezilya tarafında, Japurá ve São Gabriel da Cachoeira belediyelerinde yaşamaktadır.^[7]

Barasana halkı kendilerine jebá. ~baca veya jaguar halkı (Jebá "jaguar", efsanevi ataları) adını vermektedir.^[8]
