English: A circa 1950-1960 image of Independence Square (1950s-1960s) - on the harbour in downtown Tripoli, during the Libyan monarchy era.
  • The present day Martyrs' Square or "Maidan Al Shohdaa" , in independent Libya.
  • Aerial view is to the southwest, with Tripoli Bay in the foreground of the corniche and the two monument columns (before 1960s landfills extended land far into the harbour-bay).
  • The Ottoman era Red Castle (Tripoli Castle museum) is on the upper right, and former Teatro Miramareon the square's lower left.
  • Also formerly named Italian colonial Piazza Italia (1930s-1950s), and Green Square or "E'saha ElKhadra" (1970s-mid 2011).
