The length of the rectangle is equal to one and half its width (height of the flag). This rectangle is divided according to the small median in two halves. The green colour half is placed inside, against the shaft.

The white colour half is placed outside. The star is composed of five branches. It is written down in a circle whose radius is equal to the eighth of the height of the flag. It detaches itself entirely on the white bottom of the flag; two tips are on the small median of the rectangle and a tip on the big median.

The radius of the outside circle of the crescent is equal to the quarter of the height of the flag. The radius of the interior circle of the crescent is equal to the fifth of the height of the flag. The two tips of the crescent delimit a big equal bow to the five sixth of the circumference of the outside circle.

The centre of the outside circle of the crescent is in the centre of the rectangle.

This construction sheet includes two irrational dimensions that have been derived (calculated) from the given dimensions:

  • A: Distance from the vertical centerline of the flag to the vertical centerline of the small arc on the crescent.
  • B: Distance from the vertical centerline of the flag to the vertical centerline of the star.
Simple mathematics reveals that the distance between the two points on the crescent is precisely equal to the diameter of the imaginary circle around the star. This leads to some redundancy in the drawing.

Public domain This work was first published on Algeria and is now in the public domain because its copyright protection has expired by virtue of the Ordinance No. 03-05 of 19 July 2003, , which was approved by Law No. 03-17 of 4 November 2003 (details). The work meets one of the following criteria:
  • It is a photograph or work of applied art and 50 years have passed since the date of its creation (created prior to January 1, 1976) or it was published prior to January 1, 1987 (see {{PD-Algeria-photo-except}})
  • It is a collective, pseudonymous, anonymous, posthumous or audiovisual work and 50 years have passed since the date of its publication (published prior to January 1, 1976)
  • It is another type of work and 50 years have elapsed since the the year of death of the author (or last-surviving author) (author died prior to January 1, 1976)

In order to be hosted on Commons, all works must be in the public domain in the United States as well as in their source country. The copyright of all Algerian photographs and works of applied art published prior to 1948 had expired in Algeria on the date of restoration (April 19, 1998)[1] pursuant to the provisions of Article 60 of the defunct Ordinance No. 97-10 of 6 March 1997 which was in effect at the time. Such works are thus currently in the public domain in the United States.[2]
